U.S. Sudan Talks Senator John Kerry s Visit

September 82009

As chairman of the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee, John Kerry will lead a congressional delegation to Sudan’s Darfur region, and will hold talks with senior members of the Sudanese government. [John Kerry, U.S. Senator]: “It’s a pleasure for me to be in Sudan and I am looking forward to some very in-depth discussions. There are obviously some very important issues for us to begin to talk about. Now it’s my opportunity, representing the Congress of the United States Senate to be here to engage on humanitarian issues and obviously issues pertaining to the conflict that has so seriously pulled at the country over these last years. We are all very hopeful that we can make progress on these issues, I think everybody will benefit from that.” Washington has had tense relations with the Islamist government of Bashir, who came to power in Africa’s largest country in a 1989 coup. The United States imposed economic sanctions on Sudan in 1997 and labeled it a state sponsor of terrorism. Ties were strained further by the conflict in Darfur, which both Obama and his predecessor, George W. Bush have called genocide, a description Sudan’s government rejects

How to Contact your US Congress Man

September 52009

Based on a true story
——
So this is what happened. I called my local congress man Ciro Rodriguez and asked to speak to the legislative aid on healthcare. They ask “What’s your name and who are you with?” I said I’m just calling from the rep’s district about an issue on healthcare. They were like, please hold. And then for the next twenty minutes I was on hold. Eventually they pick up the phone and after hearing I was still there they hang up. I immediately call back and ask to speak to the legislative aid again. The new person is like, oh Bryan? he’s probably busy, and she’s like I can listen to what you have to say. Of course the conversation is a pre-taped recording of uh-hu’s and whatever that big word you just used. How can anyone expect their stuff to be passed on when it’s being translated by free interns? I asked them if sending in a fruit basket might help. They said that might help. I faxed my stuff in to. I caleld back later to see if they got it, but they couldn’t locate it but told me it was probably because so much had been coming through. Is there any hope that our representatives will actually listen to the people from their own district or just the heads of insurance and drug lobbies?

Solving the healthcare debate is simple from both sides. Let’s enact reforms that create citizen owned health care and not politician owned heatlh care. Give everyone flexible spending cards and a base insurance high deductible private insurance plan. Next enact mandatory id cards that would allow holding private encryption keys for all citizens, so we can work with private vendors to have portable medical records. This way we separate health care from health insurance. We can provide feedback to doctors on our treatment and no more filling out the same form over and over again. Have the insurance companies and doctors and citizen groups work together to establish a base line price. Not a base line set by Medicare that robs doctors and patients. The less money your doctor makes, the less he cares about your treatment and the more he cares about pushing a bunch of procedures on you to get a good profit margin.

Next contact your state representative and request a constitutional convention of state representatives. Ask them to propose and pass a US constitutional amendment for term limits for Congress and the Senate. No more than 5 consecutive terms for Congress and no more than 2 consecutive terms for Senate.

The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country . . . Tyranny, like , is not easily conquered.’ So began the great American tradition of winter soldiering.
