Rabbits make wonderful pets and for the most part they will remain very healthy throughout their lives. However, there are some diseases that you should know about and know how to treat.
The first is pasteurella which has warning signs of discharges from the rabbits nose and matting of their front paws. Unfortunately, this is one of the most serious of diseases that can affect your rabbit because there is no real cure. If this happens to your rabbit, you can have your vet give them some antibiotics, but it will only help with symptom relief… which is a worthy cause.
The next one we’re going to talk about is called Coccidiosis. This is caused by a parasite that will damage the intestinal track of the rabbit. This can be treated by putting sulfaquinoxyline in the water and making sure the rabbit drinks over the course of 3 to 4 days. It really isn’t a serious disease unless you don’t take action and get it cured.
Third, your rabbit can suffer from ear mites. These are causes by a parasite which ends up making it’s home in the ear canal of the parrot. While this disease is not life threatening, it will just cause major discomfort causing the rabbit to scratch and possibly produce an infection.
This is only three different diseases that can affect your rabbit, but it’s good do know they exist and it’s good to know what to do. If you keep your rabbit clean, watch them, give them a good rabbit cage that is big enough… then you can be assured that your rabbit will live a long and happy life.
