Congress vs. House of Representatives?

October 312009

i just wanted to know which one is higher..on levels of government?…..and which one would you guys rather be a member of?…..
i ment congress vs. Senate srry

The U.S. Congress consists of two bodies: The Senate, made up of two members from each state, and the House of Representatives, whose members are allocated to the States by population. Thus a populous but relatively small State like Rhode Island may elect as many representatives as a very large but thinly populated State like Montana.
To answer your question, I would personally rather be a member of the Senate than be President. He can’t do a thing unless a majority of both the Senate and the House agree to it, and Senators only have to stand for reelection every six years.

what was the agreement that split congress into th house of representatives and the senate?

October 272009

Don’t listen to "fool". He\she is wrong.
It was a compromise between the states with large populations and the states with small populations. The states with large populations wanted representation in congress to be based on population like the House of Representatives. The small states wanted every state to have the same number of votes. They agreed to the "Great Compromise" which made a bicameral legislature with the Senate and the House of Representatives. Obviosly the Senate gives each state two votes and the House gives each state based on its population.

What are the benefits given to U.S congress members and House of Representative workers? Pick this one!!!?

October 252009

I mean working benefits.
For both U.S. Congress Members and House Representatives.

Your question is a bit unclear, as "U.S. Congress" refers to the Senate and the House, and "workers" could mean congressional staffers (i.e. the people who work for the Senators and Representatives).

The website below has everything you’re looking for in regards to the actual Members of Congress, but you’ll need to scroll down to the bottom third for the "benefits" (i.e. stuff other than salary).

I’ve never heard of the "free college for kids and grandkids" bit; I’d be interested in seeing a source for that.

What is the difference between house of representatives and congress?

October 232009

Curious

The House of Representatives is half of congress if you count the number of chambers (House and Senate), or about 6/7 of the number of members of congress. Congress is both the House and Senate, composed of 100 Senators and about 540 members of The House of Representatives.

Does the party with the majority in the house of representatives/congress automatically win the election?

October 212009

Since democrats have a majority in the senate and the house, won’t they automatically vote for the democrat, in this case, Obama? So, by deductive reasoning, wouldn’t that mean that the election is already decided? If this is true, why even campaign?

Congress does not vote for the president; the electoral college does. And not neccessarily is the election already decided: people can sway as more skeletons come out of the closet and the candidates present better policy.
